Reflections on a Covenant

For the husband is the head of the wife, even

As Christ is the head of the church:

And he is the savior of the body.

Therefore as the church is subject

Unto Christ, so let wives be

To their own husbands

in everything.

(Ephesians 5: 23-24, KJV)

During this time of Christ’s crucifixion, resurrection and ascension we  focus on what Jesus did during His short time on earth.  He was sent as a symbol of the new covenant God wanted with all his people.  As married couples, we also are symbols of God’s new covenant.  Just like Jesus and the House of Israel,

Married couples are a reflection of the relationship Jesus has with His church, established by a covenant written in indelible ink on our hearts.

It is not by some random chance that we are trying to be married in a world where everything tells us it is not the way to be.  God has carefully placed us here as messengers.  We share God’s light and hope with other married couples as well as those contemplating marriage.  This is not easy in today’s world.  So many things out there suggest better, easier ways to live and pull us to them.  But they are pulling us away from God and what He wants for us.

You will say, “This is too hard.  I don’t want to continue.”  Remember the sacrifice Jesus made for us and the example He sets in His relationship with His church.  That is what we aspire to, not the images the secular world bombards us with.  Focus on God; invite Him into your marriage.  Let God love and bless your marriage.  Only then can you fulfill the mission He has put you on this earth for.  He wants you to be married and spread His love as a couple.  Isn’t it time we did what God wants instead of what the world suggests.
