Balloon or Coat?

A short and sweet midsummer faith reflection/checkup.

It has been a tumultuous year in our society. Many social issues, many social problems, many chaotic events.

How do we as Christians navigate through these tough times when our faith is tested?

Perhaps the first step is to evaluate how we display our faith as Catholic Christians, especially in the spirit of the call to New Evangelization. What do the people in our everyday lives see when they look at us? Do they see a person of faith living the Word or a person who goes to church for an hour on Saturday night or Sunday? How are the faith vibes we emit with our actions and words received by those around us?

In short, how do I carry my faith and show it to the world?

Is my faith displayed like a balloon tethered by a string to my wrist? The faith balloon that floats high above as I move through my daily life. Sure, everyone sees my faith up in its spot high in the sky but does it do me or anyone else any bit of good floating up there just for show?

I should wear my faith like a coat.  A big, comfy coat of faith wrapped around my body which keeps me closer to God and wrapped in His blessing. A coat to show the world by my actions and words that I am a faithful person.

Wear your faith around like a coat.

It will be unflappable in the elements.

It won’t float away in a strong breeze and it can’t be popped or deflated.

Put on that faith coat and show it to the world.
