God’s Way, Not Our Way

We all have hopes and dreams, and many of us plan out our way to fulfill those hopes and dreams in our lives.  But we have to remember to follow God’s way, not our way.

Our way, our best laid plans, may not turn out the way we had hoped.  We can spend months, or even years, planning out our path to a given destination, and it still may not come to pass.  All of that effort seemingly goes to waste.

Meanwhile, God takes us in a completely unexpected direction.  God’s way supersedes our way.  We begin to wonder, “do my hopes and dreams matter to God at all?”

Sometimes, we get caught up in our anger and frustration of a life we never planned for – and surely one we never expected – only to miss the beautiful life God was giving us as an alternative.

My life has gone far from what I planned it to be.  If you told the Chad of 5, 10, 15, 20 years ago about where I would end up today, it is a path that I probably would not have expected.

But even if I did not expect my life to turn out this way, I am happier than I could have ever imagined.  My life is even better than what I had planned for.

This, of course, does not mean that my life does not have its share of struggles.  Like anyone, I face a myriad of problems that can sometimes weigh us down.

But the difference is that I have a peaceful, beautiful life with Christ, and I get to share that life with a glorious Church.  Even sharing this with you today is a joy I never planned for, but one I am extremely grateful for.

God’s way may not be our way, but it can have some amazing results:

  • God’s way introduces you to a spouse that puts you head-over-heels in love
  • God’s way gives you children that you adore more than you could imagine
  • God’s way opens the door to a career you never dreamt of
  • God’s way leads you to amazing experiences that were never on your schedule
  • God’s way opens your heart to new possibilities
  • God’s way gives you hope for a better tomorrow and life everlasting

Truly, God’s way is not our way, and thank God it’s not.  Life may not end up where we expected, but the destination may be even better than we could have ever imagined.
