A new year brings with it a chance to reflect on what went well in the past and what can be better in the future. If our goal is to evangelize our culture, how can we do it better than we did last year? For most of us, standing on a street corner wearing a signboard is not how we call people. We do it in more subtle ways.
Allow me to offer a few ways to evangelize without saying much at all. Wear a religious medal or a crucifix regularly. Pray before you eat, even in a restaurant. If your state has license plate options, choose one which reflects a moral principle rather than your favorite sports team. My car (in Florida) sports a “Choose Life” plate which supports adoption. I also have a small rosary hanging from my rear view mirror.
You can use your Facebook, Google+, or Twitter accounts to post brief scripture quotes, book quotes, or saint of the day facts. When you are at Mass, “check in” or comment on the great homily. It is important to be positive, so don’t use social media to talk about parish problems or your personal grievances with the Church.
By doing all or some of these, people will learn that we not only say we are Christians, but that we live it out in our daily lives. Our faith is a part of our ordinary, daily life and we are comfortable professing it. This is how we can attract others to Christ.
What are some small ways you evangelize?

Each Friday, a small group of co-workers and I go out for lunch. Anyone is invited, so the group changes from week to week. During lent, I suggest that we go to a place that offers some non-meat options. This has led to several positive questions from curious co-workers about catholicism. I find it a great unobtrusive way to evangilize.
Great way to reach people, sharing a meal together; just like Jesus often did 🙂
