A Light in the Storm

For God who commanded the light to

shine out of darkness, hath shined

in our hearts to give the light of

knowledge of the glory of God in

the face of Jesus Christ.

(2 Corinthians 4:6)

Darkness: How many times have I stumbled in the darkness, not knowing where to go? How many times have I ignored God’s light in favor of my own or Satan’s?

What is the darkness? Webster’s dictionary defines it as an absence or deficiency of light, or a lack of knowledge or enlightenment. Paul’s definition is living in a state of sin, not acknowledging and walking with Christ. These two definitions are not too far apart. For when we go through our lives and refuse to let Jesus guide the way we are traveling in the darkness. When we sin we push God’s light away, we hide it under a bushel.

This is not what God wants for His children. God has granted us a wonderful opportunity to come out of the darkness and into His glorious light.  He wants us to bask in His wonderful light and to reflect that light to the world. He knows we will sin and slip into the darkness, but He is always standing by to lift us out of the darkness.

But if we walk in the light

as he is in the light,

we have fellowship with

one another and the blood

of Jesus Christ his Son

cleanseth us all from sin.

(1 John 1:7)

Like a lighthouse guiding a ship through the stormy seas, Jesus is our guiding light through the storms of life. We should embrace His light, slam the door on Satan’s darkness and Jesus is the key that locks the door for all eternity.
