And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, endurance produces proven character and proven character produces hope. This hope will not disappoint us because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Romans 5: 3-5)
Checkmate! Have we reached a place where God is no longer our guide? Where man believes he is in control and God is defunct? Have we become like the ancient Israelites wandering in the desert for forty years never being allowed to enter the Promised Land, because of their lack of faith, their disobedience to the one true God?
I don’t want to believe that, to fall into the trap of hopelessness and despair. As a God-fearing, God loving people, we have to hold onto the hope that He will find a way. We must join our hearts and raise them up in prayer to our gracious God. We must take action when and where we can even if it is just a small part, but we must be a part. There is hope, peace and mercy to be found. The darkness of Satan’s evil cannot be allowed to prevail. We know with God, as believing people that the evil one will not win in the end.
We must not lose hope, must not despair. Grab onto every glimmer of light; make it shine brighter until it overtakes the darkness. See the desert, not as the end, but as the beginning, a place of refining, so when our forty years have passed we may leave the furnace and enter into a new world with Christ.
Don’t let the darkness overtake, the evil win the game. Hold onto Christ and be led out of the fear, the despair, and the hopelessness. It is up to us to bear the torch of God’s truth and see it spread to the ends of the earth. We are God’s people, here to spread His gospel with whatever gifts He has given. Then at the end of our earthly existence we will cross over into the Promised Land and be with Him for eternity.
